Collection and Usage of the Connectives说课稿

Good afternoon, everyone. I’m so honored to be given the chance to talk about my teaching plan. This topic mainly talks about collection and usage of the connectives in English writing.
The students in high school have known some basic knowledge about English writing. Teaching aim is that in this class, they are able to express their ideas with these connectives under the teacher’s guidance. I will make full use of this lesson to stimulate the students’ learning motivation and improve their ability of cooperating with each other through discussing.
   Teaching important and difficult points are how to make use of the connectives they’ve learnt to write a good English composition and how to improve the Ss’ writing skills.
   I’ll use the following teaching methods: group work method and task-based learning.
The teaching aid I use in this class is multi-media and slide.
Teaching procedure: Here comes the most important part of my teaching plan—my teaching procedure.
Step1. Lead in---comparison
I’ll show two compositions to students and ask them to compare the two compositions to find the differences: In one short passage, there is no connective. So the students may find it only made up of some simple sentences. In the other, there are many proper and wonderful connectives and it’s clear that the second is more attractive.
By doing this exercise, students can realize the importance of connectives in English writing.
Step2. List the connectives
(1) Ask the students to find connectives in the good passage. Do you know more connectives?
By doing this, the students maybe want to know more connectives. So naturally we will come to the next step.
   (2) First ask students to discuss and then list the connectives they have known, at last I will provide nine classifications of connectives on the screen and ask the students to read and recite them.
Doing this task prepares the students for the following exercises.
Step3. Practice:
1.   Join the two sentences into one sentence using proper connectives.
This exercise is very easy and will help the students to know the connectives well.
2.   Fill in the blank: Show one of the students’ compositions which use no connective and ask students to fill it by using the connectives we have learnt in this class. This exercise is a little more difficult and challengeable.
Step4. Writing
1. Write a composition
Ask students to write a composition and try to use connectives correctly. After finishing the composition, underline the connectives.
This exercise is much more difficult than the last task, so it can challenge students’ abilities of using connectives.
2. Present their writings
Ask some volunteers to present their compositions and have a class discussion. I will hold a competition and give a prize to those who are good writers.
By doing this, students find that their writings have been improved by using the proper connectives.
So I tell them if you want to get a high score in your writing, you must have a large collection of connectives and use them correctly in your writing.
Step5. Homework:
Memorize the 9 classification of connectives and practice more after class, because practice makes perfect.
